The untimely death of the Mahatma on 30 Jan 1948, has allowed Indians to re-invent the core values which India should stand for. Communal harmony, non-violence and democratic values. We could hold on to the values for 76 years now. For the past few years it has been amply evident that the values are slowing slipping away. The confidence of the people in the election process, the values of political leaders, the lies propagated in the media, the blatant use of loopholes in the law, the unbelievable judgements, the judges+police accepting political posts with no shame, the hijack of the parliamentary democracy by passing bills with no discussions, the occupying RSS leaders in the independent institutions sealing the opposing voices, misuse of political power to get rich political party taking over 3000 crores in a year as Electoral Bonds allowing no accountability of who paid how much, people being misled with lie feed.... and the list moves on and on with no end in sight. We are worse performing in giving employment to the youth, poverty on the rise, rich becoming freaking richer, poor the poorest. The exorbitant taxes on the middle class is heinous. All is inefficiency of Governance and more importantly denial that there is any problem as such. We are falling fast in values and faster into deep pit in terms of progress.
There is ample evidence that the Government are lying low with all the above mentioned shortcomings with the Emperor running away from independent press conference. The Governance has conveniently engaged Godi media not only to keep these issues at bay from the people but also feeding them with non-existing false pride.
Mahatma Gandhi had stated that “poverty is the worst form of violence,” a phenomenon that mainly plagues the population in the developing countries. Poverty is key issue for human rights, sustainable development, social cohesion.
Nothing of this being remembered. The values are just remembered in speeches, and to garland the leaders of the past to brag about themselves.
The history being erased, the present condition being defied and yet painting the rosy future with no ground work.
Hopes are not high not even parallel to the ground.
